PAST EVENTS
In 2006 Hope For Tomorrow (HFT) attended Global warming conference in Nairobi Kenya, collaborated with other organizations from United States and The Ministry of education in Kenya where we had teachers, school children and community women, men and youth assembled to demonstrate the need of electricity and solar energy instead of using Kerosene and candle light at homes and schools.
In 2007, the Global National Youth Services was held at JB Nursing Home in Washington DC where the youths demonstrated their concern for residents by offering feeding program. The event was officially opened by the Mayor of the District of Columbia, Mayor Adrian Fenty.
We also had an event at the Golden Rule Apartment with the Youths and parents where we talked about environmental managements. During this event we were also joined the Serve DC Mayors office for youth and the Vietnamese community Center organizations on environmental day, where we cleaned the compound and parks.
In June 26 2008, Rosemary Segero, the President of Hope For Tomorrow was happy to meet and speak with the former US President George W. Bush at the White House National Faith Based and Community Initiative conference on “Innovations in effective Compassionate.”
She also talked to him about conflicts policy on violence against women and empowerment of women in the United States, Africa and other international communities by allocating funds to facilitate the development programs. This was necessary, since women are the backbone of homes, communities and countries. When women are empowered then, they can help themselves better; hence, the entire world is enhanced in socio-economic growth. She had previously communicated with him and other G8 Summit Leaders in Scotland in 2005, on the issue of reducing poverty in Africa and other international communities by supporting and empowering on entrepreneurship. We hope the United States will continue with good relationship with Africa and international communities. HFT still continues with the advocacy of socio-economic empowerment of women, youth and disabled with president Obama and his new Administration especially the Secretary of the State Hillary Clinton and the US Ambassador of Women- At-large who are very much concerned with women issues locally and internationally.
October 15 2009, we held a Symposium at the Capitol Hill on Child Soldier and violence against women during conflict. The symposium was chaired by Universal Human Rights Network CEO Michael Davis, and was co-sponsored by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of United State Representatives; also participating was the US State Department the bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. Participating also were the Embassies of Sierra Leone and Sudan, the forum was well attended by government officials and members of civil society.
The conference was to raise awareness about issues related to the recruitment of child soldiers and elimination of violence against women affected by armed conflicts. Our conference aim was to:
- To educate the public at large on the importance to strengthen humanitarian efforts and support to end wartime atrocities;
- Mandate the enforcement of international human rights standards, especially for the protection of the most vulnerable - the children and women.
- Collaborate with Non-profit organization, African Civil Society in the Diaspora, African Diaspora communities, US policy makers, and international community and others to further public and political discourse on the challenges of these women and children that have encountered violence and human conflicts.
Violence against women is a defining component of wartime conflicts, Not only it is unacceptable because it translates the degree of inhumanity embedded in its perpetrators; its impact is far reaching affecting the very foundation of family, the community and the nation.
2010 Members of Hope For Tomorrow participated as volunteers and advocacy at the Haiti Embassy in Washington DC, they were also concerned about Shelter in Haiti for those who were displaced and they met with the Ambassador of Haiti to discuss the way and the most important support to the people of Haiti, we also wrote letters to Former President, Clinton and Bush Foundation, President Obama, United Nations New York and Geneva, Southern Command, and others to see that the people of Haiti had container shelters or affordable housing before the rain season, and that the children, women and young girls were not trafficked out of Haiti.
